| I ask myself so many times if I am doing the right thing for my son. He is 13 years old and on meds for ADHD and TS, specifically Ritalin and Clonidine. Middle school is awful and it seems like the only thing that happens is his meds get increased. I would like to know what any of you other teens think about medication. |

I recommend home schooling.
I was in public school for most of middle school and it caused me a lot of unnecissary grief. The stress of dealing with the "lynch the wierdo" attitude made my tourette's get worse, and left me feeling like a pathetic and usless loser for a long time after.
After I switched to home school, I showed remarkable improvement in both my tourette's and my self esteem.

I totally agree. I took Clonidine before and I really didn't like it. Of course all meds are different for different people, but managing sleep, meals (limited sugar, caffeine, dairy), stress...those deff help.
I was homeschooled from Kindergarten until now (I'm in College) and I found that very helpful. _________________ www.jamie-grace.com |

Things are a little better since I first posted this. Home schooling is not really an option, as my husband has a full time job and a side business and I work full time just to scrape by with bills. I have sent the school an email with some of my concerns. Devan now has to take a Math Recovery class... basically summer school during the school year. He's been pulled from the only elective he has (other students have 2) for recovery. Drama has been wonderful for him. It's funny... he never would've picked drama. It just turned out that way. But it's been wonderful and that's the class he's been pulled from. His drama teacher has been very sweet about it and has said she would argue to have him back in her class next semester. Devan is actually doing great socially. Now he's back in soccer, as well. Academically, now, not quite as well. I don't know... Roller coaster rides. _________________ *Krista* |
