|

I was sitting at lunch last week and a girl who sits behind me saw my hand twitching and had said something about how I'm twitching my hand again. One of my friends was sitting with this girl and said that I have Tourette Sydrome and I looked behind me to find out what was going on and this girl looks at me and asked if I have TS and I said yes. Of course shes just like everyone else and said she thought TS was were you cuss all the time so I told her its part of TS but not what it is. Her boyfriend sits with me and he looks at me and says thats what Tourette is were you cuss and all. I told him no its not and I tried to tell him what it is but he wouldn't believe me. I told him that I know what it is because I have it and he said that what I have isn't Tourette Syndrome it has a different name. I found out later when he finally listened to me that he has only noticed one of my tics before. So I know I can't be too mad at him for this but it makes me mad when you tell someone you have something and they argue with you about it and said that your wrong.
Has this ever happened to anyone else or is it just me?? |

Well, I got really mad one time, when my brother was copying one of my tics to make fun of me, and my mom then said that those were his tics so I should respect them. That cut my fuse. _________________ "We're also... no strangers to love."

Yes. Every time someone finds out I have tourettes, they ask my friends how much I cuss. Tha answer is always, "almost never". I only cuss when I am REALLY mad, and then it is completely voluntary. _________________ Why do those who are ignorant feel the need to advertise it? |

| my mom says the same thing when my brother or sister copy one of my tics. Also the other day I was doing a new facial tic and at first she didn't believe that it was a tic and told me to knock it off. |

Wow. I've never had that happen. Plus, it's hard to get your parent to believe thing they don't by yourself. But let me tell you something i've said before: it's usually not that they dont believe, it's just that they don't want to believe. Most parents of a kid with Ts wish that their kid would be normal. But don't let that get you down! _________________ "We're also... no strangers to love."

I've had doctors tell me I don't have Tourette's. That was really frustrating, and part of why I didn't get diagnosed until this past summer (I'm 19). My tics tend to go away when I go to the doctor, because I start thinking about it too much, so two of my GP's told me it was probably all in my head. Yeah, that's why I do it in my sleep, right? |

| One of my friends moms thinks TS is just a nervous disorder. She trys to say that when someone is nervous, they are expressing their TS. |

My mom thinks im just always nervous and im always told to stop...i've learned to hide it from people well but i need to just start letting people know. My doctor told me the reason i have the tics is that im constantly stressed. Now i'm thinking i need a new doctor. Soo... no one has even told me that i have it so i guess no on has told me i don't.. Im sure i do though from all the research i've done. |

there's a latin phrase "Post hoc ergo propter hoc"
or simply said.. a correlation does not imply causation..
the doctor said you're stressed, thus you have tics..
or could it be that you have tics, and you're stressed becos no one can tell you what it is... |

I actually have corprolalia, and that's the tic that everyone thinks is fake. I also have corpropraxia, and when people actually notice it (I shake my fist or hold up either the middle finger or the v-sign, but I can disguise it by pretending to just put my hair behind my ears) they also think I'm faking that. It really drives me mad when people accuse me of just trying to get attention because hey, I have better ways of getting attention than shouting curses and blasphemy all the time.
What really made me mad was when I had a teacher who knew I had TS was upset by my clicking my teeth when she was talking, she pulled me aside and said, "I know you've got tics, but were you faking just now?"
People also think that I fake now because of that South Park episode. They seem to expect me to pull them aside and say, "All right, you've figured me out." Honestly! That makes me mad sometimes, but I try not to
dwell on it, otherwise I'd be walking around fuming all the time. |

I was sitting in the coffee house @ school yesterday wth my sister and a few guys. I said I had Tourette and one guy said he knew i didn't have it because that meant I would be yelling curse words. It took everything within me not to get really upset, but I was agitated. He eventually believed me when one of the other guys pulled up my Youtube videos, and was later on apologetic for doubting me, so everything is OK now, but it was still awkward. :/ _________________ www.jamie-grace.com |
